Edition 9.7 Introduces Key Changes for Compliance

On 2nd June, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works released an updated version of its ‘Procedure Manual’. This official document provides guidance to Commonwealth Government entities for obtaining Committee approval on proposed public works. The manual’s latest edition, 9.7, introduces several important changes.

These changes include technical modifications to align with the Department of Finance’s regulatory requirements. the manual now features updated language that more accurately reflects current Committee and Parliamentary practices. it offers revised guidance on office fit-out costs, taking into account recent inflationary impacts and current market rates.

According to the Committee, entities are expected to seek cost-effective options and engage with the Committee early in the project planning process. The manual emphasises the importance of flexibility in timing and processes for referrals to ensure the best value for money.

The ‘Procedure Manual’ outlines mandatory procedures for the referral of major works and the notification and approval of ‘Medium Works’. Entities must comply with these guidelines when planning applicable projects. Edition 9.7 underscores the Committee’s expectations regarding entity requirements to engage at the earliest opportunity.
