Study Highlights Owner Hesitation
On April 22, 2026, a study commissioned by Zoetis Australia exposed a troubling gap in routine parasite protection among Australian dog owners. Conducted by YouGov, it surveyed 1,000 dog owners nationwide.
The research identified that 86% of dog owners associate health-related behaviors with love for their pets. However, 47% remain hesitant to administer routine parasite treatments. Surprisingly, 83% expressed willingness to sacrifice lifestyle comforts to keep their dogs parasite-free.
Parasites pose significant health risks to dogs, including intestinal worms, heartworm, fleas, and ticks, leading to severe illnesses. Despite this, many owners neglect preventive measures.
In Australia, dogs face exposure to various external and internal parasites, with many acquiring parasites during their lifetime.
Internal parasites, such as intestinal worms and heartworm, cause malnutrition, gut disease, and serious illnesses that can be deadly. External parasites like fleas, ticks, and mites trigger symptoms such as intense skin irritation, anaemia, and paralysis.
