First open-source RISC-V AI system available

SANTA CLARA, CA — Tenstorrent has announced the launch of its TT-QuietBox 2, marking the debut of the first RISC-V AI workstation to feature a fully open-source stack, according to the company. The system, designed for developers and small businesses, begins shipping globally in Q2 2026 and is priced from $9,999.

According to Tenstorrent, the TT-QuietBox 2 offers a unique proposition by allowing users full transparency and control over their computing stack, from hardware to software. CEO Jim Keller stated, “Tenstorrent is working hard on open source AI software and we wanted to build a teraflop development system that was easy to use in a lab or office, fast and quiet.”

AI Workstation Features and Industry Context

The workstation supports models with up to 120 billion parameters, enabling developers to run large-scale AI workloads locally. Tenstorrent highlights that the system is capable of handling diverse applications, from scientific research to other complex tasks, without relying on cloud services.

This announcement comes as AI inference workloads continue to grow, now accounting for over 55% of cloud AI infrastructure spending. By offering an open-source alternative, Tenstorrent aims to provide a more transparent and cost-effective solution for AI developers, avoiding the proprietary limitations of traditional systems.

Featuring four Blackhole ASICs and significant memory resources, the TT-QuietBox 2 is designed to optimise performance while reducing bottlenecks associated with conventional AI hardware. The system runs on Ubuntu 24.04 and requires no specialised infrastructure, allowing for easy deployment in various environments.
