Course Tailored for Darwin Jobseekers

STEPS has introduced a free, accredited Certificate II in Hospitality course in Casuarina. This course is designed to assist Darwin jobseekers in entering the expanding hospitality and tourism sectors.
The Australian Government’s Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Programme funds the course. It equips participants with practical skills that meet local industry demands.
According to Cassie Stanley, CEO of STEPS, the course was launched in response to the rising demand for trained hospitality staff in Darwin. This follows a successful rollout earlier this year on the Sunshine Coast.
“Darwin’s hospitality industry plays a major role in our local economy, particularly with the Top End becoming a popular tourism destination,” said Ms. Stanley. “We’re seeing ongoing demand for reliable, trained hospitality staff. This course gives participants the skills and confidence they need to step into an entry-level role and hit the ground running.”

Comprehensive Skill Development

Participants in the course will gain practical skills in customer service, workplace health and safety, food hygiene, and teamwork. These skills prepare them for various roles in the hospitality sector. The course also emphasises building confidence and professionalism.
Cassie Stanley emphasised that the course also focuses on ensuring graduates understand employer expectations. “We work closely with our participants to help them gain the communication skills, reliability, and workplace mindset that employers really value,” she stated.
“Our goal at STEPS is to see people not just complete a qualification but move into meaningful employment and feel confident in their abilities to reach their goals, whether professional or personal,” Ms. Stanley added.
The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Programme is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. For more information about the course, including eligibility criteria and dates, visit stepsgroup.com.au/hospitality or contact the team on 1300 131 965.
STEPS is committed to empowering individuals through inclusive training, employment, and support services. Their mission is to break down barriers, create opportunities, and build a sense of belonging, ensuring everyone has the chance to achieve their full potential.
The course is open to eligible participants who are looking for job-ready skills specific to the hospitality industry. Interested individuals can contact Colleen McMillan, Marketing and Communications Manager, for more information at 0487 095 674.
Since its inception, the programme has been pivotal in addressing the gaps in skilled labour within Darwin’s hospitality sector. STEPS aims to replicate the success witnessed on the Sunshine Coast by fostering a new generation of skilled workers who can contribute significantly to the local economy.
