AI Integration with WhatsApp for Businesses

Telnyx has launched WhatsApp Business Calling, allowing businesses to make and receive voice calls via WhatsApp. Announced on April 30, 2026, the service integrates with existing Telnyx communication platforms, enhancing their AI-powered voice and messaging solutions.

AI voice agents can now connect to WhatsApp, streamlining communication by using the same platform for Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) voice, SMS, and AI-powered interactions. This integration allows businesses to extend their AI voice agents to WhatsApp, combining real-time call control with conversational AI.

“Most businesses building AI communications today are still managing separate systems for every channel. That fragmentation slows teams down and limits what AI can actually do. WhatsApp calling on Telnyx removes that barrier. Your AI assistant works where your customers are, without rebuilding anything,” said David Casem, CEO of Telnyx.

Global Network and Coverage

Telnyx owns and operates its global network, offering local number coverage in over 140 countries. This move significantly expands the market for businesses using AI assistants, particularly in regions where WhatsApp is the primary communication channel.

Casem emphasised the importance of infrastructure, saying, “In a lot of the world, WhatsApp is not an alternative channel. It is the channel. For AI assistants to operate at real scale, they need to be there, and they need carrier-grade infrastructure underneath them. That is what we have built.”

WhatsApp Business Calling is available to Telnyx customers through their Mission Control Portal or via API. Customers need a WhatsApp Business Account linked to a Telnyx number to activate the service. This seamless integration allows businesses to manage communications efficiently and effectively.

Telnyx’s launch underscores its commitment to providing reliable and scalable communication solutions, enhancing business interactions on one of the world’s most popular messaging platforms. By owning its network end-to-end, Telnyx ensures high-performance communications for businesses worldwide, from startups to Fortune 500 companies.

Businesses leveraging Telnyx’s WhatsApp calling can now extend their reach to new markets, particularly in regions where WhatsApp is the dominant communication tool. Companies can better serve their customers globally, ensuring seamless communication and improved customer engagement. The expansion of AI capabilities across communication platforms allows for more efficient customer service and operational scalability. Telnyx’s infrastructure supports high-volume traffic, ensuring that businesses can handle large numbers of simultaneous calls without degradation in quality.
