Project to Boost Zinc and Lead Production
SYDNEY — Terramin Australia has unveiled updates to its Tala Hamza Zinc Project in Algeria, forecasting significant economic returns. The project, located near Bejaia, is set to produce 2.0 million tonnes of ore annually, according to Terramin’s latest mining study.
The updated study reveals a 20-year mine life with an average annual production of 178,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate and 33,000 tonnes of lead concentrate. The company expects a pre-tax nominal NPV of AUD 1.13 billion and an IRR of 24%.
Project Details and Economic Impact
Terramin’s Executive Chair, Bruce Sheng, stated, “The updated Mining Study confirms the strong economics of a significantly expanded Tala Hamza Zinc Project.” Economic incentives have been secured through the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, including tax exemptions and infrastructure support.
Early works have commenced with land acquisition finalised and residents relocated. A significant debt funding package from an Algerian government bank is nearing completion. Terramin emphasised the project’s proximity to key infrastructure such as a deep-water port and reliable power sources.
