Clover Moore launches plans opposite Sydney Town Hall
Designs for a new public square opposite Sydney Town Hall were released on Tuesday 11 August 2026.
At 10:30am, the launch took place on the Sydney Town Hall steps in central Sydney.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore AO attended the event, which promoted the site as Sydney’s next great gathering place.
Matthew Morel joined the launch as lead design consultant for JPW.
Sacha Coles attended as landscape architect and global design director at ASPECT Studios.

Margy Osmond was also listed for the event as chief executive of Tourism & Transport Forum Australia.
The square will sit opposite Town Hall.
Tuesday’s release focused on the design reveal, not on construction dates or an opening day.
No cost, capacity or staging figures appeared in the briefing for 11 August 2026.
JPW was identified through Morel’s role, while ASPECT Studios was identified through Coles’ role.
Because both firms were named on Tuesday 11 August 2026, the project was presented as a combined urban design and landscape scheme.
Osmond’s presence tied the proposal to the visitor economy and transport links in the city centre.
The event notice also gave an email contact for Macara alongside the Sydney Town Hall location.
Across the briefing, four named figures from city government, design and industry were attached to the launch on 11 August 2026.
