Sonoma partnership expands deliveries across three regions
Brisbane-based Funky Food has partnered with Sonoma Artisan Bakery to add rescued artisan bread to customer orders.
Fresh artisan sourdoughs, rolls and specialty loaves will go to households in South East Queensland, Sydney and Melbourne.
The bread comes from Sonoma loaves that miss appearance standards but keep the same flavour and handcrafted quality.
Funky Food already rescues cosmetically imperfect fruit and vegetables that supermarkets reject.
Customers can build their own orders or choose ready-made boxes with produce, meat, pantry staples and now artisan bread.

Australia throws away about 456 million loaves of bread each year. Food waste also costs the economy more than $36 billion annually.
Sonoma general manager Aine Doran described artisan baking as naturally imperfect because each loaf is made by hand.
“Every loaf is handcrafted, and sometimes that means one might not look exactly how we intended. But inside, it’s every bit as delicious,” Doran said.
According to Sonoma, the partnership will move those loaves onto family tables instead of into waste.
Funky Food chief executive Noah Pratt called bread a long-standing target for the business.
“This partnership was a no-brainer. We’ve rescued millions of kilograms of fruit and vegetables over the past few years, and adding artisan bread means we’re saving even more incredible food from unnecessary waste,” Pratt said.
Pratt added that Sonoma shares Funky Food’s values and operates on the same street.
Since launching, Funky Food has delivered 657,366 boxes and rescued 7,888,392 kilograms of produce.
The company says shoppers can save up to 30% compared with major supermarkets.
Meanwhile, the new bread line expands Funky Food beyond fruit and vegetables into more grocery staples.
The partnership aims to address two pressures at once: rising grocery bills and food waste.
Sonoma’s rescued loaves will now sit alongside Funky Food’s existing range for customers across three metro markets.
