Celebrating First Nations Music and Culture

Barkaa, a prominent First Nations artist, will headline Blak Nite 2026 on 1st May at Carclew, North Adelaide. The event is a one-night festival celebrating First Nations music and culture. Blak Nite serves as a platform for both established and emerging First Nations artists, providing space for storytelling and creative expression.

The importance of First Nations voices in shaping Australia's cultural landscape is highlighted through this event. Carclew's First Nations Programs Manager, Thomas Readett, stated, "BLAK NITE celebrates the strength and diversity of First Nations creativity while developing meaningful opportunities for young artists to step onto major stages, connect with community and build pathways into the future."

A Diverse Lineup of Talent

In addition to Barkaa, the festival will feature performances by Nathan May & Band, Cringetrender, Katie Aspel, Sandy Abbott, DJ SVVLO, WAYIN:THI Dance Collective, and Gig Rig Tracks Youth performers. This event showcases a wide array of First Nations talent across music, dance, and performance, ensuring a memorable experience for attendees.

Barkaa emphasised the significance of representation and community connection, saying, "Everything I do is for my people. It’s about telling our stories the way they’re meant to be told, unapologetic, honest, and powerful." Fresh from a string of major national performances and accolades, she continues to redefine Australian hip hop with a voice that is fearless, politically charged, and deeply personal.

The festival will transform Carclew’s historic North Adelaide grounds into an immersive cultural experience with live performances, workshops, art-making, market stalls, and food trucks. Attendees can engage with various activities, including jewellery making with Haus of Dizzy and a collaborative art wall by Shane Cook. Cook has also developed all the merchandise and branding for the night.

Designed as a full-site cultural experience, audiences can move through activations including Patch Theatre’s Light n’ Glow tents, roaming native animals, and live broadcasting. Blak Nite is produced by Carclew in partnership with Indigenous Languages and Arts Australia and Create SA, with support from Balya Productions.

Tickets are available for $10 general admission or $35 for a family of four. The event will take place from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm on 1st May 2026 at Carclew, North Adelaide. For more information, visit www.carclew.com.au.
