Cazcabel and The Fermentalists mix honey tequila with chilli heat

Cazcabel Tequila and Australian condiment maker The Fermentalists have launched a Hot Honey Margarita for World Tequila Day in Australia. The serve mixes Cazcabel Honey Tequila Liqueur, The Fermentalists’ Hot Honey, fresh lime and a touch of salt.

For winter drinks at home, the recipe pairs citrus, sweetness and slow-building spice. Cazcabel and The Fermentalists created it as a simple twist on the classic margarita.

The Fermentalists’ Hot Honey uses habanero chillies and native wattle seed. Those ingredients add rich heat and a subtle nutty note to the drink.

Meanwhile, Cazcabel Honey builds on the brand’s Blanco tequila with natural honey and earthy agave notes. Cazcabel describes its tequila as a field-to-glass spirit made from 100% family estate-grown agave.

Jordan Young on hot honey

Cazcabel is an independently owned tequila brand produced in the Jalisco Mountains of Mexico. A fourth-generation agave farming family grows agave in its own fields and makes tequila at Hacienda Cazcabel in Jalisco using only agave, water and yeast.

Across Australian venues, menu mentions of hot honey rose by 56% over the past 12 months. That growth has pushed the ingredient beyond pizza, fried chicken and charcuterie and into cocktails.

Jordan Young, Cazcabel brand ambassador, said the drink gives Australians an easy way to try one of 2026’s biggest flavour trends at home. “World Tequila Day is the perfect excuse to move beyond the standard margarita and experiment with bold flavours.”

Young said hot honey brings sweetness, spice and complexity, while Cazcabel Honey Tequila ties the drink together with smooth honey and agave notes. He also said the cocktail is easy to make at home but still feels special enough for a celebration.

The full recipe uses 45ml of Cazcabel Honey Tequila Liqueur, 25ml of fresh lime juice and 15ml of The Fermentalists Hot Honey. It also needs a pinch of flaky sea salt, or two drops of 20% saline.

To make it, add the tequila liqueur, lime juice, hot honey and salt to a shaker with ice. Shake well, then strain over fresh ice into a Tajin-rimmed rocks glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

Cazcabel Honey Tequila Liqueur is available from Dan Murphy’s and premium independent retailers nationwide. As a result, shoppers can recreate the Hot Honey Margarita across Australia.
