Eromanga Set to Showcase Dinosaur Giant

Australia’s largest dinosaur, Cooper, will take centre stage during Queensland Dinosaur Week from 4th to 10th May 2026. This significant event is set in South West Queensland, a region famous for its rich paleontological history.

Cooper, officially named Australotitan cooperensis, has become the highlight at the Eromanga Natural History Museum. The museum’s Stage 3 development, beginning in late 2026, includes plans to mount and display Cooper, enhancing the visitor experience.

Robyn McKenzie, from the Eromanga Natural History Museum, expressed excitement, saying, “There’s never been a better time to visit Eromanga and South West Queensland. Queensland Dinosaur Week is the perfect reason to come now, experience Australia’s largest dinosaur, and be part of the story as it continues to unfold.”

The museum in Eromanga, home of Cooper, is preparing for an influx of visitors. Guests will have the opportunity to stand beneath one of the largest land animals to ever roam the continent.

Queensland Dinosaur Week Events

Visitors can participate in various activities, including the Twilight Science Session on 6th May, exploring citizen science in paleontology. A live broadcast on 9th May will feature expert insights from Dr. Scott, focusing on Queensland’s dinosaur and megafauna stories.

The Australian Dinosaur Giants Tour, occurring daily at Eromanga, lets attendees meet Cooper up close. Visitors can explore fossil preparation labs and workshops and engage in hands-on fossil preparation experiences.

Volunteer positions are available for those interested in becoming fossil preparators, allowing individuals to contribute to ongoing scientific research. This offers a unique opportunity to be involved in real scientific discovery.

Aside from dinosaurs, South West Queensland offers other attractions. The Natural Sciences Loop guides travellers through Charleville, Quilpie, Eromanga, Thargomindah, and Cunnamulla, where they can explore fossils, opals, artesian waters, and vast outback skies.

Karen Hanna Miller, Executive Officer of Dinosaur Experiences Australia, highlighted the region’s appeal, saying, “Queensland Dinosaur Week shines a spotlight on our state’s incredible fossil discoveries and deep-time stories, but it’s also about the journey.”

Queensland Dinosaur Week will conclude with National Dinosaur Day on 7th May. This week-long celebration across the state aims to educate and inspire visitors about Australia’s rich paleontological heritage. More details can be found at www.dinosaurexperiences.com.
