Morning dance phenomenon Daybreaker launches in Melbourne

Morning dance phenomenon, Daybreaker, glides Down Under to strengthen community and wellbeing

Daybreaker will stage its first Melbourne sunrise event on Saturday, 7th February 2026 at the Abbotsford Convent Oratory. The event will run from 8am to 10am and marks the first of three planned Melbourne gatherings. Future events are also scheduled for Sydney and Brisbane.

The all-ages event follows Daybreaker’s established morning format. The program combines guided movement, a live DJ-led dance session, and a closing sound and breath experience. As a result, participants can attend before the working day begins.

Founded in New York in 2013, Daybreaker operates across 66 cities worldwide. To date, more than 800,000 people have attended events globally. Consequently, the Melbourne launch introduces the alcohol-free sunrise format to Australian audiences.

The Abbotsford Convent Oratory will host the inaugural event within one of Melbourne’s major cultural precincts. Additionally, organisers have scheduled the experience entirely in the morning to align with the global Daybreaker model.

Program and Australian expansion

The Australian launch is being led by Melbourne-based wellbeing entrepreneurs Hayley Rose, Bryony Cole and Andy Lee. The trio first experienced Daybreaker events in New York. Since then, they have overseen the development of the Australian community.

The Abbotsford program will open with guided natural movement co-hosted by Simba. It will then transition into a DJ set performed by Katie Hill, with additional programmed elements. Finally, the event will close with a collective sound and breath experience led by Eliza Hilmer from Feel Good Flows.

Daybreaker co-founder Radha Agrawal said Australia has long been part of the organisation’s expansion plans. She said, “Daybreaker has always been a global movement built around joy, music and genuine connection. Australia has been in our heart for years, and we couldn’t imagine a better city to begin with than Melbourne, a place rich in culture and community… Melbourne already has that heartbeat. There is a playfulness, a curiosity and a creative spirit here that reminds me of our early days. We’re excited to bring our morning dance ritual here and introduce Australians to what thousands around the world already know: a healthier way to gather, move and start the day.”

Hayley Rose, Australia Lead for Daybreaker, said the focus remains on wellbeing and connection. She said, “Community is one of the most overlooked pieces of modern health infrastructure and Daybreaker is on a mission to bring more joy and belonging through community to the world. True to Daybreaker’s ethos, the event will be completely alcohol-free, grounded in wellbeing, and intentionally designed to leave people energised, uplifted and more connected to themselves and each other. We’re excited to bring this event to Melbourne and more Australian cities.”

Bryony Cole said the Melbourne launch carries added significance. She said, “As Melbourne experienced the longest lockdown in the world, it feels extra special to bring Daybreaker to Melbourne for our first series of events before branching out across Australia. The experience develops community and connection in a caring environment with none of the hangover of a big night out just a blissful glow for the rest of the day.”

In addition, Daybreaker will collaborate with local artists and wellness brands as the program develops. Guest appearances from global Daybreaker contributors are also planned. Therefore, the Melbourne events form part of a broader rollout that will introduce the sunrise format to additional Australian cities.
