Free Training and Disability Support Available
STEPS, a national provider of adult education and disability support, opened a new site in Innisfail on 28th May 2026. The facility offers free training and disability employment support to the local community, enhancing access to education and job opportunities.
Located on Lily Street, the site features engaging classrooms and hands-on training tools. Residents benefit from the STEPS Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, offering training in English language, literacy, numeracy, and digital skills at no cost.
Julian Szuba, STEPS Regional Manager for Northern Queensland, expressed enthusiasm: “STEPS is known for providing unparalleled education and training opportunities and compassionate disability services across Australia, and our new Innisfail site will make it easier than ever for locals to develop their skills and knowledge.”
Supporting Disability Employment
The site introduces STEPS Work Mates to Innisfail, offering personalized support to help people with disabilities prepare for and succeed in the workplace. This programme is part of STEPS’ commitment to Far North Queensland, with existing sites in Cairns City, Edmonton, Gordonvale, Mareeba, and Mossman.
Szuba highlighted the positive impact of STEPS: “I’ve witnessed the positive impact that STEPS has had on our participants, and now even more people can take the next step towards their goals. Whether you want to explore a new career path or simply use the computer to file your taxes without any assistance, we’re here to help you.”
The STEPS SEE Programme allows eligible participants to access training that opens pathways to professional opportunities, further study, and more confidence in everyday life. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, the programme supports local residents.
