Xiaomi Reclaims Wearable Band Crown

Xiaomi's Strategy and Market Trends

LONDON — Xiaomi has reclaimed its position as the world’s largest wearable vendor by annual shipments, according to a report by Omdia. The Chinese tech giant captured an 18% market share in 2025, marking its first return to the top spot since 2020. Apple followed closely with a 17% share, while Huawei came in third at 16%.

The wearables sector saw over 200 million units shipped globally in 2025, reflecting a 6% year-on-year growth, Omdia reported. Cynthia Chen, Research Manager at Omdia, noted that the market is shifting from hardware to an ecosystem-led competition. She emphasized the importance of seamless cross-device integration and delivering monetizable, value-added data services.

AI and Subscription Services in Wearables

According to Jason Low, Omdia’s Research Director, AI and subscription services are becoming crucial revenue drivers. “Algorithms and services are becoming standalone profit centers,” Low said, highlighting the significance of advanced health insights and AI-powered coaching in generating recurring subscription revenue.

The wearable tech industry is undergoing a significant transformation, with vendors increasingly optimizing devices for continuous health monitoring. The focus is on integrating professional-grade sports and health management features, where Apple, Samsung, and Huawei are leading the charge with advancements in physiological metrics like blood glucose and blood pressure monitoring.

This rise of Xiaomi comes amid growing demand for wearable technology that offers not just hardware but also integrated services. The shift in market dynamics suggests that future growth will hinge on AI advancements and professional-grade health features, according to Omdia.

Furthermore, Xiaomi’s success is attributed to its strategic investments in R&D and partnerships that enhance its product offerings. The company has also focused on expanding its reach in emerging markets, where there’s a burgeoning demand for affordable yet sophisticated wearable technology. Analysts believe that Xiaomi’s ability to offer a diverse range of products catering to various consumer needs has been pivotal in its market resurgence. With the wearables market becoming increasingly competitive, Xiaomi’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions will be key to maintaining its leadership position.
