Canberra Firm Provides Essential Tools for Military Training

CANBERRA — Boresight, an Australian company based in Fyshwick, is emerging as a leading supplier of small target Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) for Western militaries, a development driven by the increasing threat of hostile drones. The company has sold over 5000 systems in the last five years, serving 11 Western armed forces, including all four branches of the US military.

Boresight’s products are crucial for training and testing counter-UAS systems, which are essential in detecting and neutralising hostile drones, according to the company. Justin Olde, Managing Director of Boresight, stated, “Every Counter-UAS system in the world needs to be tested against realistic drone targets before it can be deployed.”

The company, a subsidiary of Canberra-based Criterion Solutions, offers a range of UAS designed for realistic training scenarios. Their flagship product, the BQ-400 Raider, is a cost-effective solution that mirrors the performance of commercial quadcopters used in conflicts, such as those seen in Ukraine.

Growing Demand for Counter-UAS Solutions

As military forces worldwide face the growing challenge of drone warfare, the demand for effective counter-UAS solutions is escalating. Boresight’s expanding product range, including the BQ-750 and BS-350 quadcopters, addresses various threat profiles, offering critical training tools for militaries and commercial customers alike.

In response to the high demand in the United States, Boresight has established operations in Huntsville, Alabama. The company plans to further enhance its capabilities, with a focus on developing new interceptor UAS for kinetic missions and surveillance systems for military and law enforcement applications.

Boresight’s approach to providing affordable, effective training solutions is pivotal as Western militaries ramp up their investments in counter-UAS technology in response to evolving threats.
