Campaign Aims to Promote Positive Spectatorship
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have announced their backing for the 'Shoosh for Kids' campaign, an initiative led by the NSW Government to encourage positive sideline behaviour in junior sports this winter. This effort aims to enhance the experience for young athletes and spectators alike.
Over 1,000 sports clubs and 33 State Sporting Organisations have joined forces to support this initiative. By promoting a positive environment at junior sports events, the campaign seeks to keep children engaged and enthusiastic about participating in sports.
The principle of 'Shoosh for Kids' is straightforward: spectators should maintain a supportive atmosphere. If there's nothing positive to say, it's better to 'shoosh'.
Bulldogs Collaborate with Local Clubs
The Bulldogs collaborated with junior players from the Milperra Colts Junior Rugby League Club in Brighton. This event gave young athletes the opportunity to meet their sporting heroes and learn about the importance of maintaining a positive atmosphere in sports.
Adam Berry, Office of Sport Deputy Secretary, emphasised, "When attending junior sport we need to remember, it isn’t the NRL, EPL or NBL – it’s community sport. It’s about fun, friendship, and skill development."
The Shoosh for Kids programme provides free resources to clubs, associations, and SSOs, helping them share the message and keep sports enjoyable for kids. This initiative supports the overall goal of making sports a positive experience for all involved.
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton expressed, "Junior sport is the heartbeat of our community, which is why we're proud to stand alongside the NSW Government in supporting the Shoosh For Kids campaign. Rugby league should be a place where every child feels safe, supported, and free to enjoy the game they love."
Bulldogs player Matt Burton added, "The Shoosh For Kids campaign is a fantastic initiative that I’m proud to be a part of. Kids should be free to enjoy their sport in a positive environment, and this campaign is a great way to ensure that."
