Challenges in Solar Component Replacement

Japanese manufacturer GBP K.K. has made a significant entry into the European market by deploying 300 custom solar replacement panels to a French operator. This deployment, announced on 5 April 2026, marks the company’s formal entry into the European solar maintenance market. It addresses the critical need for compatible replacement panels in aging solar installations.

Specializing in manufacturing replacement panels that match discontinued solar modules’ exact specifications, GBP K.K. eliminates the need for structural modifications. Operators face increased component failures in solar installations from 2010 to 2015 across Europe. GBP K.K.’s panels offer a practical solution.

In these installations, replacement costs are typically 40-50% higher when using non-matching panels. The company’s custom panels help reduce these costs significantly while maintaining operational efficiency. GBP K.K. maintains a proprietary database of over 800 legacy module types from more than 80 manufacturers, ensuring precise matches.

GBP K.K.’s Innovative Solution

GBP K.K. addresses this challenge through a proprietary database of over 800 legacy module types from more than 80 manufacturers. This database allows them to produce replacement panels matched to the original dimensional, electrical, and mounting specifications. Since its inception, GBP K.K. has supplied over 420,000 replacement panels in Japan and 20,000 in Australia. Their successful deployments demonstrate their capability and reliability in addressing the unique needs of aging solar assets.

The company has also launched GBP Direct, a multilingual e-commerce platform that offers worldwide access to their replacement panels with no minimum order requirement. This platform enhances accessibility for global customers. GBP Direct supports multi-currency transactions and is accessible in six languages. Orders are efficiently fulfilled from strategically located hubs in Shanghai, Ningbo, or Guangzhou.

In Germany, France, and the Netherlands, aging solar installations are experiencing an accelerated phase of component failure. As original manufacturers have ceased production of legacy module types, asset owners face a procurement gap that standard distribution channels cannot address. For a 1MW plant, this challenge could affect around 100 panels annually, representing an estimated 30,000 kWh in lost annual generation if unresolved. GBP K.K.’s custom solutions provide a critical option to avoid such losses and maintain energy production levels.

The company’s entry into Europe signifies a strategic expansion, leveraging its experience in Japan and Australia. GBP K.K.’s approach ensures that solar installations continue to operate efficiently, reducing financial burdens on asset owners and contributing to the sustainability of renewable energy resources.
