Victorian Artists Invited to Apply
Entries are now open for the 2026 Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture, offering a $60,000 main prize to Victorian artists. The application window closes on 6th July at 5pm.
The Melbourne Prize, now in its 22nd year, is one of Australia’s most significant art awards. It invites Victorian artists across all career stages to submit works in various forms, including public installations, new media, and sound art.
Simon Warrender OAM, Executive Director and Founder of the Melbourne Prize Trust, noted the high interest this year, stating, “We have had record registrations of interest, reflecting the vibrancy of our arts sector.”
Supported by Major Patron The Vera Moore Foundation, the prize aims to support the professional development of artists in the region. Artists must detail how the prize money will advance their practice.
Additional Opportunities for Artists
In addition to the main prize, two artists will have the chance to participate in a two-week residency at Falls Creek Alpine Resort, each receiving $1,000 in support from the Melbourne Prize Trust.
The judging panel for 2026 includes artist Maree Clarke, curator Max Delany, and Sophie Oxenbridge from the National Gallery of Victoria. Finalists will be announced on 16th September, with a public exhibition at Fed Square from 13th to 26th November.
Founding Event Partner Fed Square will host an information exhibit showcasing the four Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture finalists. Visitors can vote for the $2,000 Civic Choice Award during the exhibition period.
Each non-winning finalist will receive $1,000 from Fed Square. Entries and nominations can be submitted via the Melbourne Prize website. Winners and finalists will be celebrated at an event on 26th November.
The Melbourne Prize cycle includes upcoming awards such as the Melbourne Prize for Literature in 2027 and the Melbourne Prize for Music in 2028, continuing its tradition of recognising and promoting artistic talent.
