Community Event to Raise Funds and Awareness
ILLAWARRA — The annual Memory Walk & Jog Illawarra is set to take place this Sunday, 22 March, at Lang Park, bringing the community together to support dementia awareness and fundraising efforts. With the event kicking off at 7:30 am, participants will walk, jog, or run to promote brain health and raise crucial funds for those affected by dementia, according to event organisers.
More than 600 participants have already registered for the event, with organisers encouraging more locals to join. Online registrations remain open, and attendees can also sign up on the day. Tully Smyth will host the event, offering a family-friendly atmosphere for all involved.
Event Details and Participation
Participants unable to attend the main event can organise their own Memory Walk & Jog through the MyWay initiative, choosing their own date and location to support the cause. Dementia Australia, the organisation behind the event, aims to raise awareness and funds to support over 446,500 Australians living with dementia and their caregivers. Teresa Cong, Senior Media & Communications Advisor at Dementia Australia, emphasised the importance of community involvement, stating, “We welcome everyone to be a part of this initiative to support those impacted by dementia.”
For further involvement, individuals can visit the official website to find more ways to contribute. The event underscores a broader trend of community-led initiatives aimed at addressing health challenges through active participation.
