Supporting Rural Mothers Through Community
Motherland is preparing to host a special Mother’s Day event on 30th May in Rockhampton, Central Queensland. This event aims to foster connection and provide support for rural mothers across the region. It will be held at the Shearing Shed in Rockhampton Heritage Village from 11.30am to 2.30pm, featuring a grazing-style lunch, drinks, and a vibrant pop-up marketplace for attendees.
Guests will hear from a panel of inspiring rural women, including Katie Craig, Sarah Henney, and Claire Mactaggart. These discussions will be facilitated by Motherland Founder and CEO Stephanie Trethewey, who was named 2024 Australian of the Year for Tasmania.
Motherland’s Mission and Impact
Since its inception in 2019, Motherland has focused on reducing isolation among rural mothers by providing essential programs, services, and online communities. This includes a virtual mothers group for those with children up to 18 years old, ensuring every rural mum has access to needed support regardless of her location.
Stephanie Trethewey, who met her farmer husband in Rockhampton while working for 7 Local News in 2013, acknowledges the isolation and mental health challenges faced by many rural mothers in Queensland. She emphasises Motherland’s commitment to changing this dynamic.
Rural mothers are vital to their communities, including the Rockhampton area. They contribute significantly to their families and communities, often dealing with isolation and limited support access. Trethewey stresses the importance of ensuring every rural mother in Queensland can access the support she needs throughout her motherhood journey. She expressed gratitude for the Queensland Government’s support, which has enabled Motherland to expand its reach.
Thanks to this partnership, Motherland offers scholarships to women facing hardship, enabling them to attend the Rockhampton event free of charge. The event is open to everyone, whether you are a rural mother, know a rural mother, or simply wish to support this crucial cause. Tickets are available online, and further details can be found at motherlandaustralia.com.au.
Since launching, Motherland has supported thousands of women nationwide through initiatives like the Motherland Connect platform, Motherland podcast, Motherland Village program, and advocacy efforts. The upcoming event will help fund these initiatives, allowing Motherland to continue its impactful work across Queensland.
