New Venture in Ocean Racing Innovation

Philip Morris International (PMI) announced its role as Principal Partner of Ferrari Hypersail, a new initiative in ocean racing innovation. On 13th April, the partnership aims to revolutionise renewable energy applications at sea.

Ferrari Hypersail will feature a 30-metre full-foiling ocean racing monohull, scheduled for launch and initial sea trials in 2026. This project will operate entirely on renewable energy, with contributions from experts in aerodynamics, naval architecture, and high-performance systems.

Since 1973, PMI and Ferrari have shared a robust partnership in Formula 1, marked by reinvention and ambition, which now extends to ocean racing.

PMI CEO Jacek Olczak stated, “Ferrari’s pursuit of record-breaking performance at sea mirrors PMI’s own journey of change and innovation – bold, forward-looking, and driven by the conviction that technology, coupled with human ingenuity, can help tackle long-standing challenges.”

The Hypersail project will be powered by renewable energy, showcasing Ferrari’s commitment to sustainability in competitive racing. The initiative seeks to inspire cross-industry solutions in automotive engineering, energy efficiency, and control systems.

Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, commented, “With Hypersail, a platform for testing and validation under extreme conditions, we are embracing a scientific approach to redefine the limits of what’s possible. This project exemplifies our shared commitment with partners to innovation.”

Hypersail symbolizes a new frontier of exploration for Ferrari, merging their engineering excellence with sustainable practices. The endeavor promises to set new standards in ocean racing, driven by open innovation and collaboration with experts.

Philip Morris International is actively delivering a smoke-free future. The company’s involvement in Hypersail aligns with its broader strategy to engage in innovative and sustainable projects, reflecting its commitment to progress and environmental responsibility.

For the first time, PMI’s new visual identity will be displayed on the Ferrari Hypersail, symbolizing its evolution as a consumer goods company. This collaboration embodies PMI’s vision of a sustainable and smoke-free future, as they continue to innovate and lead in the consumer goods industry.

Ferrari Hypersail serves as a platform for breakthrough ideas that can inspire new solutions across industries. This initiative will also focus on breakthroughs in automotive engineering and advanced control systems, providing a testing ground for future innovations. With a commitment to science-backed innovation, the project is engineered through open collaboration with experts in various fields.
