MAXM Skate's Global Reach and Proven Results
Announcing a groundbreaking collaboration, the AFL Players’ Association has partnered with MAXM Skate to provide enhanced knee recovery solutions for its alumni, including former AFL and AFLW players. This partnership was revealed in Adelaide, Australia, in April 2026.
Founded by Dr. Matthew Liptak, a former Adelaide Crows player and orthopaedic surgeon, MAXM Skate offers a smart rehabilitation device and digital programme for knee surgery recovery. This technology has been clinically validated to improve post-surgery knee range of motion compared to standard care.
According to Dr. Liptak, “AFL and AFLW players have put their bodies on the line every week. When a knee injury ends or interrupts a career, the recovery journey matters just as much as the surgery itself. I built MAXM Skate for exactly these moments.”
MAXM Skate’s Global Reach and Proven Results
Now operating in over 35 countries, MAXM Skate provides a portable alternative to Continuous Passive Motion devices, promoting active recovery from day one. Its global distribution network supports thousands of patients undergoing procedures like total knee replacement and ACL reconstruction.
Rob Bowden, CEO of MAXM Skate, remarked, “The AFLPA represents some of the most driven and dedicated athletes in the country. These are people who know what it takes to perform, and they deserve a recovery experience that matches that standard.”
AFLPA members can access MAXM Skate by contacting the AFLPA Alumni team prior to their surgery. The device is delivered directly to their homes, with support from a dedicated local customer support team. Patients can share their recovery progress with healthcare providers throughout their rehabilitation journey.
Clinically proven to enhance knee range of motion, MAXM Skate’s technology also improves mental health and reduces healthcare costs. In 2019, a randomised controlled trial demonstrated these benefits, leading to increased patient engagement.
Dr. Liptak, who played for the Adelaide Crows from 1991 to 1999 and was awarded Best & Fairest in 1996, leverages his experience in elite sports for better recovery solutions. This partnership with AFLPA aims to provide former athletes with top-notch rehabilitation options.
Representing athletes who have dedicated their lives to the sport, the AFLPA ensures that this partnership delivers the best possible care for their post-career life. As a result, MAXM Skate hopes to set a new standard in sports recovery technology.
