AI Technologies in Government Building Operations
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised its second Agentic AI retreat on 12th June 2026 at Al Shera’a, the world's tallest, largest, and smartest net-positive government building. The event focused on the integration of advanced AI technologies in government operations.
Attendees included DEWA’s executive leadership team and key stakeholders in digital transformation and AI. Representatives from SAP and McKinsey also participated, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in AI development.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasised, "We deploy the latest Agentic AI technologies to enhance our role and reinforce Dubai’s position as a future city." His remarks underscored DEWA's leadership in AI integration.
Integration of Agentic AI
Al Tayer highlighted DEWA's commitment to digital transformation since 2017. He stated, "Our goal is to become the world’s first AI-native utility by integrating AI across all operations and services." This initiative aims to improve efficiency and enhance stakeholder satisfaction.
The initiative aligns with directives from UAE leadership, including HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Their vision supports the UAE Government’s Agentic AI framework for autonomous decision-making.
Al Tayer explained, "DEWA employs disruptive technologies like AI to improve efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction while investing in digital infrastructure." This investment accelerates digital transformation in the utilities sector.
DEWA began its AI journey in 2017, with a firm commitment to transforming into an advanced digital organisation. The utility has integrated AI across its value chain, including generation, transmission, and distribution. These efforts are part of the 4th Industrial Revolution, where AI plays a crucial role.
As a result of these initiatives, DEWA aims to improve operational efficiency and enhance the happiness of all stakeholders. The retreat at Al Shera’a served as a platform to discuss these advancements and reinforce DEWA’s strategy to lead change in the global utilities sector.
