Sand Sculpting event introduces 18+ After Dark experience on 18th April at Frankston Waterfront

The Australian Sand Sculpting Championships will introduce a new After Dark experience on Saturday, 18th April at the Frankston Waterfront, marking the first time the event has extended into an evening format.

Running from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, the adults-only session will present the existing exhibition under lighting and colour installations designed to alter the visual presentation of the sculptures. Organisers confirmed the experience is restricted to attendees aged 18 and over, with tickets priced at $30 per person.

The event will take place alongside the ongoing Australian Sand Sculpting Championships, which continue daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm until 26th April. However, the After Dark session introduces a distinct format that focuses on evening access and additional programming.

Visitors attending the evening session will move through the exhibition while the sculptures are illuminated. In addition, the program includes live music, a complimentary beer or wine on arrival, and a scheduled sculpture talk followed by a Q&A session.

Food trucks and a paid bar will operate on site during the event, providing additional services throughout the three-hour evening window. As a result, the experience combines the existing exhibition with hospitality and entertainment elements not present during daytime operations.

Evening format introduces extended access to the Sand Sculpting exhibition

The introduction of the After Dark session expands the event’s offering beyond its standard daytime format. While the sculptures remain unchanged structurally, the addition of lighting and evening programming creates a different viewing environment.

Organisers have positioned the session as a limited-time extension of the broader exhibition. Therefore, attendance is restricted to a single evening on 18th April, with no additional After Dark sessions currently listed.

The exhibition itself remains accessible to the public during standard operating hours across the event period. Consequently, the After Dark experience operates as a separate ticketed session rather than replacing daytime access.

The Australian Sand Sculpting Championships continue to display large-scale sand sculptures created as part of the competition. These works remain the central feature of both the daytime exhibition and the After Dark event.
