The Stage Door: Melbourne’s Industrial-Chic Event Space

The Stage Door opens a 300-capacity industrial-chic venue in North Melbourne

The Stage Door has opened in North Melbourne as a large-scale industrial-chic event space. Located at Level 2, 64–90 Sutton Street, the venue operates from a converted factory loft. It forms part of the portfolio from the team behind VIVA Melbourne.

The venue features crisp white panelled walls and a black ceiling, creating a neutral foundation for varied event styling. As a result, organisers can configure the space for corporate functions, conferences, weddings and private celebrations. Exterior roller shutters adjust natural light levels, allowing the room to shift from open and light-filled to enclosed and controlled.

The Stage Door accommodates up to 300 guests for cocktail events. It supports 200 guests in a conference format and 160 guests for seated functions. Therefore, it enables large-scale launches, networking events, exhibitions and formal celebrations within a single adaptable environment.

Capacity and layout flexibility

The venue’s primary room operates as a flexible open-plan setting. Event planners can modify staging, seating and production layouts to suit different formats. Consequently, operators can host daytime conferences followed by evening receptions within the same footprint.

In addition, The Green Room offers a secondary space within the venue. This area features a chic art deco bar and a more intimate layout. It accommodates up to 80 guests for cocktail functions and 40 guests for seated events.

The Green Room supports private dinners and smaller gatherings. Meanwhile, the main space maintains capacity for larger activations and conferences. Together, both areas provide organisers with scalable options under one address.

The Stage Door’s industrial structure remains visible throughout the venue. As a result, the loft setting preserves its factory origins while supporting contemporary event production. The Sutton Street location places the venue within North Melbourne’s inner-city precinct, providing access for corporate and private markets.
