Study Highlights Cost Advantages and Development Plans
Anson Resources Limited confirmed its Green River Lithium Project in Utah, USA, as a future low-cost producer following a comprehensive engineering study completed on May 18, 2026. This study places the project within the first quartile of global operating cost comparisons.
The engineering firm Burns & McDonnell conducted the study, estimating a C1 operating cost of USD3,837 per tonne of lithium carbonate equivalent. Anson Resources highlights multiple cost advantages, including high brine reservoir pressure and proprietary iron removal technology, both of which reduce operating costs.
Bruce Richardson, CEO of Anson Resources, stated, “The completion of the Scoping Study marks a significant milestone for the Green River Lithium Project. The study confirms our strategy of developing a low-cost lithium operation with a capital profile that compares favourably with global peers.”
Capital and Operating Cost Estimates
The initial capital requirement for the project is approximately USD568 million, with a projected mine life of 20 years. Anson Resources targets the first supply of battery-grade lithium carbonate by 2029, having secured a definitive offtake agreement with LG Energy Solution for 40% of the annual production.
Brine pretreatment facilities, a process plant, and necessary infrastructure are included in the study’s capital cost estimate. Operating costs consider reagent consumption, energy, and water usage based on preliminary process design.
Anson Resources advances toward a Final Investment Decision, with most permitting and approvals in place. The company has commenced a Definitive Feasibility Study to further refine project details and confirm financial models.
The Benchmark Lithium Forecast Report Q1 2026 provides base and upside cases with forecast prices for 2029 and 2040. Anson’s financial model assumes static lithium prices from 2040 to 2048.
U.S. Federal and Utah State taxes, along with the applicable SITLA royalty, are incorporated into the project’s post-tax cash flows. These estimates remain conservative, excluding potential benefits from Inflation Reduction Act production tax credits, grants, or federal incentives.
A clear pathway to development is evident as material project de-risking, permitting, and approvals are largely complete. The project advances towards a Final Investment Decision with ongoing evaluations of multiple DLE technologies based on financial returns, recovery, and scalability.
