Opportunities for First Nations women
MELBOURNE Kmart Group and Stars Foundation have announced a national partnership to enhance education-to-employment pathways for First Nations and Torres Strait Islander young women. This collaboration, revealed on March 30, aims to build on existing programmes and expand opportunities across Australia, according to a statement from Kmart Group.
The partnership formalizes a decade-long relationship between the organisations, with a focus on increasing Indigenous workforce participation. Kmart Group’s Chief People & Corporate Affairs Officer, Tristram Gray, stated that the initiative aims to scale local successes nationally, creating supported pathways from school to meaningful employment.

ContextStars Foundation has been instrumental in empowering over 1,300 alumnae since its inception in 2015 and currently mentors more than 4,300 First Nations girls across 80 programmes nationwide.
Andrea Goddard, Founder and CEO of Stars Foundation, emphasised the broader community impact of supporting First Nations women through education and employment.The announcement aligns with Kmart Group’s commitment to Indigenous employment, with efforts such as the Deadly Store initiative which focuses on cultural safety and employment in areas with high Indigenous populations.
